CAN YOU CHANGE THE MIND OF A RACIST?

I posted this blog because racism is something that has always bothered me deeply and I have engaged many times in conversations with racist people, in an attmept to change their minds, or at least give them enough insight as to budge their thinking a little bit; to at least consider that there may be a way of thinkin other than their own.
As this historical election draws nearer, I have been encountering racist remarks more than ever. It seems like everywhere I turn people have become very comfortable voicing racist sentiments. I suppose that the nature of the political climate has brought discussions about race relationts to the forefront of alot of our minds, and as a result people are saying things they may not have felt comfortable saying before, and many of these things are hurtful and negative. A blog demeaning Barack Obama that I have been posting on through this website has upset me. It's not just the fact that the hatred they're spewing is so hurtful, but it's also their complete lack of reason, or justification. How can we end racism? How can we turn people like this around? Can we? Does anyone know someone who was once racist but has had a change of heart? I would appreciate any of your thoughts and comments on this. I am just so tired of discrimination, racism, hate.
